Play Synopsis
Unveiling the Great Canadian Caper is designed as a performed radio play. The audience is present as the mechanics of the radio mystery unfold, the Foley artist’s sound effects and the backstage dramas that ensue during the recording. The radio play is titled The Great Canadian Caper which centres on the theft of $20,000 worth of maple syrup from Sylvester Gosling’s Maple farm in the fictional hamlet of Sweet River, 30 km’s from North Bay, ON and makes up most of the performance. Private Eye, Susan Cleary happens to be in the area for the local maple syrup festival when she hears of the heist and can’t resist the sweet smell of a mystery. It is a melodramatic mystery, while the antics of the voice actors and crew provide the comedy. It is set in a simple recording studio at LARK Radio in 1950.
Character Still To Be Cast
Constance Pierce: Constance is one half of the Foley artist team. She and Richard Lark (the owner and production manager at LARK) have been providing the sound effects for the studio for 20 years. They are completely simpatico and never miss a beat. In fact, they are so in sync, that some assume they are a couple – including Constance. As well as being the Foley artist, Constance will read minor character lines.
